Stumps of Trees supposed to have been cut down by Captain Cook, in March, 1773, on Astronomer's Point, Pickersgill Cove, Dusky Sound, for the purpose of securing a firm base for his observing instruments, when determining the longitude of N.Z. In December, 1863, when one of these stumps was secured for—the Dunedin Museum by Dr. Hector, they were overgrown by a growth of large forest trees—J. Hector.
