3. The Alkaloids of the Pukatea.

In addition to the author's previously published work (see Proc. N.Z. Inst., 1909, pt. ii, p. 56), the methods of preparation, description, and analyses of the, salts of the alkaloid Laureline C19H21o3N, the sulphate (C19H21O3N)2H2SO47H,2O, the hydrochloride C19H21O3N HCI, and the nitrate C19H21O3N HNO3, are given. The provisional formula C16H19O3N is suggested for a third alkaloid, neither the hase nor the salts of which could be obtained in a crystalline state. Pukateine, C17H17O3N, is shown to possess feebly acid properties in the presence of a strong base, forming salts with the alkali metals of the formula C17H16MO3N (M - K or Ne) and to have an optical activity of a D15 D—220°.
