Report of The Honorary Treasurer For Year Ending 31st December, 1928.
The Balance Sheet for the year ending 31st December, 1928, shows a debit balance of £249/6/4 as compared with a debit balance of £608/0/7 on 31st December, 1927, but this difference is accounted for by the fact that the cost of Part 3 of Volume 59 has not been included in the year's expenses while the corresponding part of Volume 58 was included in the previous year's accounts. However, the cost of Part 3 of Volume 59 which has just been published will probably be about £300, so that we are still in a little better position than last year. Nevertheless the cost of printing the Transactions remains too high, and as emphasised in my last report steps should be taken to limit the size of the volume and thus reduce the annual charge for printing.
We still have our obligation to pay the outstanding balance £877/0/9 due to the Government Printer, and until this is liquidated the cost of printing should be reduced as much as possible. On the 31st December, 1926, the amount due to the Government Printer was £1,545, and in the last two years this has been reduced by £668 to £877. If we are to carry out our undertaking to clear off the liability in four years, the next two years must show a greater reduction.
The Endowment Fund now stands at £597/6/5 showing an increase of nearly £400 during the past five years.
The Trust Accounts are in a satisfactory condition. The Carter Bequest Capital now totals £7,156/8/8 showing an increase of £300 over the previous year, and during the past seven years this fund has increased by over £2,000. The Hector and Hutton Memorial Fund Capital Accounts remain the same, while the Hamilton Memorial Fund has increased from £48/7/11 to £55/8/9. The Hector Award has been increased from £45 to £50, and could if thought desirable be further increased up to say £60. The grants from the Hutton Fund could also be increased; during the past two years these have amounted to £28/10/- while the Annual Revenue is about £70.
The Books and Accounts have as usual been excellently kept by the Assistant Secretary.

Hon Treasurer.
